New EMS Workshop Production - February 2006...

The Early Music Shop is the world's largest supplier of early musical instruments and kits and a completely new workshop has been created with experienced staff. A completely new workshop has been created around several of the existing staff. New instruments and instrument kits have been devised using a completely fresh approach to manufacturing and design. These new techniques are enabling us to produce kits and completed instruments at very much reduced prices, making the notion of producing Early Musical instruments in kit form all the more attractive.

anthony & SteveWe welcome back Anthony Calvert (CLICK HERE to email Anthony) to head our new workshop team that includes Stephen Robinson and Barry Holder, each having nearly 30 years experience in the manufacturing of quality Early Music instruments. The emphasis will be set firmly on the production of a completely new range of affordable instruments and kits that are made without compromise in design and quality of the materials used. Working mainly from original drawings each instrument is carefully studied and thoroughly researched before going into production.anthony & barry
Over the last few months we have developed three sizes of rebec kits, two sizes of lute kit with their shells pre-assembled, a new range of historical percussion, three sizes of viol kit, and a completely new range of harps. The harps from the simple 'Play-Today' knee harp range have between 6 - 19 strings whilst the larger EMS harps (with semi tones) have 19, 24, 31 or 38 strings.
A very exciting new project is an English harpsichord kit designed by Peter Barnes especially for the Early Music Shop. Fully transposing, with a range of GG - f''' (59 notes) the kit will come with a walnut casework (pre-assembled), and the price including lid and stand. Orders are being taken now for delivery towards the end of year and the finished instrument will be on show at the Greenwich International Festival of Early Music in November.
